Understanding childcare funding can sometimes feel complicated.

Eligibility and the number of funded hours available will depend on your child’s age and your family’s circumstances.

Funded Childcare for Working Families

Eligible working parents of children aged from nine months until school age may be able to receive up to 30 funded hours of childcare per week for 38 weeks of the year.

Some providers may offer the option to use fewer hours each week across more weeks of the year. Please speak to our team to learn how funded places are offered at Busy Bodies.

Funded Childcare for Two-Year-Olds Receiving Additional Support

Some two-year-olds may qualify for 15 funded hours per week if their family receives certain forms of support or the child meets specific eligibility criteria. This may include circumstances where:

  • The family receives certain qualifying benefits.

  • The child has an Education, Health and Care Plan.

  • The child receives Disability Living Allowance.

  • The child has left care under an eligible order.

Eligibility requirements apply, so parents should check their circumstances through the official government service or their local authority.

Universal Funding for Three and Four-Year-Olds

All three and four-year-olds in England can receive 570 funded hours per year.

This is usually provided as 15 hours per week for 38 weeks of the year and normally begins from the school term following the child’s third birthday.

Some eligible working families may qualify for up to 30 funded hours per week.

When Can Funded Hours Begin?

Funded places usually begin at the start of the term following the relevant birthday or eligibility date.

September

What Do Funded Hours Include?

Government funding is designed to cover eligible childcare hours. Additional charges may apply for services or items that are not included within the funding, such as:

  • Meals and snacks.

  • Nappies and consumables.

  • Additional childcare hours.

  • Optional activities or experiences.

Our team will explain how funded places are delivered, what is included and whether any additional charges apply before your child starts.

How To Apply

Eligible working parents can apply through the government’s childcare service.

Once your application has been approved, you will receive an eligibility code to share with the nursery.

You may need to provide:

  • Your eligibility code.

  • Your National Insurance number.

  • Your child’s date of birth.

  • Proof of your child’s identity.

  • Any additional documentation requested by the nursery or local authority.

Parents receiving working-family funding must also reconfirm their eligibility when requested through their childcare account.
